View of Slant from below.

Slant represents the power of one line -- a statement of individual contribution within a collective. Over three miles of sewing thread meticulously passed between the hands of both artists to anchor this artwork. Viewers are encouraged to interact with the piece through movement, creating a change in perspective. The interplay of light and space reveals an etheric softness of hard lines, reflecting the spectrum of expression.

SHINE BLACK
Coroplast, glow-in-the-dark acrylic paint, metal

Temporary installation at Lake Merritt
Shine Black

Shine Black was erected as a poignant response to the social unrest following the public murder of George Floyd. Emerging from an expression of collective rage and despair, this served as a reminder that we are more than the conditions and unjust treatment to which we are subjected. Even in unimaginable grief, we have the freedom to choose not to respond in kind. The glow-in-the-dark paint represented historic resilience and the ability to shine through the darkness of shared experience.

Temporary installation for Oakland First Fridays
Black Brilliance

Black Brilliance was a gift to the Oakland First Fridays community. We recognized a lack of art installations created specifically for this long-standing festival. Interaction with the art was free and, in turn, inspired a liberating sense of cultural pride, joy and unity.
